Whistler BC

Monday was a beautiful day, so we decided to make the
effort and drive to Whistler, home of the 2010 Winter
Olympics. It was close to 150 miles away but what the
heck. We left about 10am, figuring that Vancouver's
traffic would have subsided by then. Well it wasn't too
bad, no major hold ups anyway. BUT...
as you drive out of the city, the whole drive becomes
worthwhile. The views are unbelievable. The road has
mostly been repaved and is in excellent condition.
One problem, there were so many "WOW" moments,
we didn't get too many pictures. The ones we did get of
course don't even begin to tell the true beauty
of the area.
If you ever get chance to drive from Vancouver to Whistler...Take it.

A walk around Whistler



The whole town is pedestrianised, and a pleasure
to walk round. Several shops that are unique to
Whistler.


This is just one of several turntables on top of a
pedestal, that revolves. They were on the bridge
that crosses this man-made river. It all was
really quite cool.

We had a late lunch, a long leisurely walk through the shopping area,
and you'll be surprised to know, we actually went into one or two...
The whole town had that feeling of excitement, and everyone we
spoke with was so looking forward to the 'Games'

It was my intention to make it as far as Vancouver before dark, but it
wasn't to be. After stopping off at a Tim Horton's and then Wal-Mart
in Squamish, it was very dark as we rolled into the city. Oh well, the
best laid plans etc....
We got home around 9pm, tired but so glad we went.
