Algar Waterfalls in Callosa d’en Sarria

We set off around 10am from the camp ground. With the GPS set, first stop Algar waterfalls, about 80+ miles. This is where they filmed the Timotei hair shampoo advert in the early 90s.

The water is so clear.

Will & Lynn came here about 20 years ago, and could not get over how good it looked now and the wooden stair way was great.

You know me, if there is water, I have to get my feet wet. Maybe it has something to do with my web toes.....

After a great walk all round the falls, with a stop for coffee, we set off for our 2nd stop, Guadalest. Of Islamic origin, Guadalest was a military stronghold of great strategic importance and is the site of several ancient castles, the remains of which can still be seen today - although earthquakes and battles during the War of Spanish Succession (early 18th Century) have reduced these castles to little more than shells. One of its most famous landmarks is the Peñon de La Alcalá tower rising high above the village to watch over the valley below.

Kids and BIG KIDS will all love the castle. It is simply so exciting being in a ruined castle on top of the world. There is also a dungeon to explore. This dungeon doubled up as a water holding tank. Hopefully only when there were no prisoners in there.

We let them out after a bit, as Jim had the car keys and Lynn had the money.

On the way up to Gaudalest we saw a shop on the side of the road selling wine, piontless pots and GOURDS. You may remember, I made a fairy house with one I got in Mexico. Well Emma & Grace wanted one too, so I said I would try and get 2 more. Well I got 3. Now all I have to do is find somewhere to put them to get them home.

The Roman Theatre Cartagena

We have said before, that the road system here consists of many roundabouts, that are attractively decorated with sculptures and other artistic objects. This one, just opposite the camp ground, is no exception. Everthing is scrupulously maintained. They have recently repainted the bull. Isn't he magnificent?

Its quite strange seeing the fairly recent blending with the incredibly ancient.

The ruins were only discovered in 1987, haveing had building upon building built on top of the thearter since it was last used more than 2000 years ago. What a find !!! Click on the link below. It is really interesting reading the history.

Rankin Tours in Spain ......

We set off today to find a house that was on Chanel 4's Grand Design. Places of Interest: Torremendo Lake - Casa La Pedrera Torremendo - Spain. We did stop off at the street market in San Miguel, as it was on the way..... would have been rude not to, as we have been to all the others in this part of Spain.

The house over looks the Lake and is open for coffee & tea, and outside pursuits like horse riding and quad bikes. We did not stop as it all looked very quiet. So we drove on.

The Lake was so blue.

As we were driving back towards home, I saw a monument in the distance and said "that looks nice" so Jim was all set to get to it ...and he did.

We parked the car and started up the hill. As you can see, the route would not pass the health & saftey, here in the UK.

I kept right by the wall all the way up.

Jim's birthday.

We had a lazy day, hanging out on the camp ground. Some friends came round in the afternoon for coffee and cake. The cake was made by Will. Jim told him yesterday how he will not be getting his favorite cake this year. Georgina made it for him last year, and his mum always made it for him.

Just how he likes it.

Food, as usual, plays a big part of birthday celebrations, so after everyone left, and we were wondering what to do for supper, we decided to try a restaurant not too far away, Diamantes, on the sea front at El Mojon. Huge fish chips and mushy peas, a coffee each, all for around 12 euros.

They are putting on a "Tribute to Buddy Holly" show on Friday night, so we booked 4 tickets, us two, Lynn and Will. Should be a good night. Watch this space.

We will miss the indoor pool when we leave. On the photo below you can see the two spar beds Jim and I like to lie on, the jets really feel good. There are under water buttons all around the pool. As you can see Jim & I had fun. A nice way to end a day.

Saturday was a very cold, but sunny day, top temp 11c. That didn't stop the 4 of us going to the Medieval Market in Orihuela.

I did want one of the white rock lamps, but Jim said I have my quota of ROCKS for this trip :-(
