Visit to Murcia & the Beach

Murcia Cathedral was very nice, I think the outside was better than the inside, but I still have York Cathedral in my mind and that would take some beating.

Why do they put the door knockers so high, Jim could not get in.....

It was closed anyway, this I find very sad.

We were told it would open in 2 hours so we went for a walk and a bite to eat first.

Which shop first.

THE BEACH

This is the beach just over the road from the camp ground. Where we are, on a thin strip of land, we have the Mar Menor one side of us and Mediteranean Sea the other.

I so wanted to take this piece of drift wood home.

Found a piece (in left hand) Working on some wood at the moment, for Christmas decorations.

QUILT.

This is the latest quilt, have about 3 on the go. What to do with them all. ?????????

I still wish I had bought that Christmas Quilt from Marie in Florida. Would look good this time of year, Marie. I will never be that good.

Old Mining Towns

There are so many old Mining towns around us. La Union,  is about 5 miles down the road from us ,as well as having a great market  on a Tuesday, it was one of the biggest mining towns in Spain.

Mazarron

The pictures below were taken near the beach at Mazarron, about 40 miles south of us. The rocks are all very soft sandstone, and as a result many different natural sculptures have been made by the wind and rain over the years. Very pretty.

There seems to be more of this type of beach than family beaches. No one seems to mind, or take any notice though.

Windy day on the beach.

We went for a walk down to the beach. Most of the people out on the water on their wind surfers were in their 60's and 70's. We just sat in the beach cafe, had a coffee and watched.

Caravaca De La Cruz

Caravaca is dominated by the medieval Castle of Santa Cruz, and contains several convents and a fine parish church, with a miraculous cross celebrated for its healing power, in honor of which a yearly festival is held on the 3 May. Caravaca is home to many monuments ands museums, many of which are important tourist attractions. The hills which extend to the north are rich in marble and iron. The town is a considerable industrial centre, with large iron-works, tanneries and manufactories of paper, chocolate and oil.

In the year 1231, when Caravaca figured prominently in the siege to the kingdom of Granada, the Moorish monarch Ceyt Abuceyt accompanied by all his court commanded the priest Father Gines Perez Chirinos to demonstrate his ecclesiastical activity. Just before the celebration of Mass, the priest realized that he forgot to ask for a crucifix which was an essential object to be placed on the altar. Having prayed to God for help, to the surprise of all present, there was the miraculous appearance of the double-arm cross, brought by two angels. This amazing apparition brought about the conversion of the Moorish king to Christianity.

We did not try to drive up that road.

We found a very nice park and went for a walk.

We walked some of the trails in the park.

A red squirrel, we don't get to see too many these days.

We did drive up this street a couple of times. Thank goodness it was a "One Way" street

We did drive through this town square, nice road surface......

Just loved seeing this palm tree in among the houses.

It was strange seeing this modern sports field amongst the old houses.

The Goatman

Every evening the "goatman" brings his goats along side the camp ground. This everning we got to talk to him and meet his dog. That dog understood more Spanish than we did !!!!!

After saying goodbye to the goatman we continued our walk and came across a 5th wheel trying to park, too many people giving diretions. As we left they were cutting back the tree's. It was definitely time to leave.

As we neared home, we saw this wonderful sunset. The picture doesn't do it justice.

How can we ????

Genette & Georgina

In the 6 years we lived in North America, we were asked many times "how can you leave your girl's and grandchildren"? This was asked by friends back in UK and family & friends we met traveling. We were never asked this by full time RV'ers. We all know it is hard to leave, and we do not go to get away from them, let me get that clear......... we could never do this life if it was not for the great relationship we all have with our children. They gave us the idea in the first place, and then supported us when we started planning the trip, a whole 5 years before we left. There was a time when we wonderd if they were giving us more grandchildren to get us to come back, as we left 3 and came back to 5. I just hope one day when they are "free" to travel more they will, there is a big world out there, BUT the best thing of all is the family & friends we meet on the way. We would spend many hours talking about our children round the campfires. When we wintered in Florida, I always felt close to the girls ( just across the pond) but some of our friends children were further away then ours, with their children in California. We were very lucky to meet some of our friends chidren and we still have more to meet, "don't we Judy"?

So we would like to say a BIG thank to our girls for their surport then, and now while we travel around Europe.

Out and about.

In the sea again. Still can't find any "sharks teeth". But it's doing my knee some good, the walking in the water help's a lot.

Went to the market this morning, in La Union, our 2nd visit there. On the way back, we went of track as we often do, and had a drive through the national forest. As you can see it is wonderful, there was signs of fire damage.

When we got back we sat outside for a while, but it got too hot for me, so I went into the awning to do some sewing. When I went shopping in Florida just before we left for home, with Janie & Jerry, I got this Dorothy panel, and I have just started to work on it. Need to find a fabric shop here soon.

We went back into La Union tonight as there was a festival going on, with live music on stage. We are not sure what the fetival was for, we have an idea its to celebrate Christopher Columbus, but not sure, but we still had a good time. I had my new hand bag with me. It felt good.

You can see the stage in the background. Unfortunatley the pictures of the band playing didn't turn out, though there is some video footage. They really were quite good.
