So much fun being 5 & 7…….
Of all the people here in Aguilas, we got talking to a couple from the UK that are here in their trailer/caravan for the winter. Ron is a retired Birmingham police officer, and Urshula worked at the QE hospital where I worked. They now live in a beautiful house near Moffitt, in Scotland. We had lots in common, home, (U.K.) work, (Nurse/Police) black tanks, gray tanks and amps. Ron and Urshula have lived on a yacht and sailed round the Mediterranean for 7 years. They have owned 4 European motor homes, and are now on their 3rd trailer/caravan. Their latest is, I think, 22ft long, and really well laid out. We were both impressed with both the lay out and apparent quality of the unit. We were invited round for dinner last Wednesday, and after a fantastic meal, we all talked the hind leg off a donkey. It was so nice to be in an RV again. One of their dreams is to travel the US and Canada in a big American RV, so you can imagine we had lots to tell them.
I hope all the facts and figures are right, but Jim did rather imbibe a little after dinner, and neither of our memories are that good……..
Many centuries of history have passed through Lorca castle. Many settlers have taken advantage of its excellent situation as a lookout post over the city.
The hill dates back to Prehistoric times. From the 8th century onwards Alcazada de Lurqa, the Islamic name of the city, would become an important military bastion.
The look out, lets hope were not invaded.
This was a sort of sun dial.
This is a pomegranate tree. The word Granada means Pomegranate in Spanish.
I found a man “fossiling BUT they had him locked in a glass box. Jim said that’s where I should be. Only have a few rocks so far.
A new rug for the conservatory, should go nicely with the new red leather sofa.
So you all don’t think I’ve gone soft in my old age, I have got 2 pairs of foot wear in less then 2 weeks also…….."life is good"
This is the second time in a week we have been to Mojacar. The
village is built on the side of a hill, and very pretty.
The views are quite stunning
Of course we had to buy something. Can you guess what I am carrying?

This weekend is a holiday here. It’s commemorating Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Bahamas. The town has a lot going on over the 4 day holiday, with markets and festivals taking place. Whilst in the Town Square we were lucky to see a wedding party leaving the church. The bride & groom left in an “English black cab”.
The Spanish lace veil was wonderful.
Jim was happy to find this little old Fiat.
Some of the mosaic work is wonderful and is displayed all over the town.
The actual castle was built in 1756. Aguilas is situated on the south-east coast of Murcia region. The history of the town is closely connected to the castle from the point that the new town was founded when the fortress was built in the muddle of the eighteenth century.
The restoration of the castle has recently been completed. On the crest of the hill, where you find the actual castle, on the Islamic ruins of a Hisn, a tower with a hexagonal base which was built in the 16th Century.
I would like to ask you all to keep Carol in your thoughts and prayers, as she is very poorly. She and I had a great adventure last year at the Fort Drum mine, and this year she got to take her grandson there, a few times, and I got to go again with her. She is one of the kindest people we got to meet in the States. We send her all our love xxx

The sea is a little too far to walk, but glad we can see it from the balcony . Emma, Nick & Joe will love it. Unlike Genette, they never got to visit us in the US, the fares would have been too much for 5, so staying with Nana & Granddad in Spain is just as good.
Nicks birthday meal last week. This is me showing them how to use “chop sticks” Like I know how!!! Need to re-think my teaching methods.
