Visit to Charleston

The Tall Ship's are a sight to see.

We got to see the start of the boat race that takes place every two years, from Charleston to Bermuda.

Today is Market Day in Downtown Charleston, starts at 8am. So we are up and out for just after 9, and arrive back in the visitors car park by about 9.45am. A short walk to the farmers market, and were there. It wasn’t as big as I thought it would be, and we had done it in about an hour. So we returned to the car, and drove to the dock area, and see if we could get a close look at the Tall Ships. Well, this time we got close to where we wanted to be, along with thousands of other people, all wanting, like us, to park their cars near to the ships. Whilst looking for somewhere to park, we came across another market. This building was obviously quite old, and we later learn is where the main slave market was held back in the days of the slave trade. The slaves would be brought ashore right near to the market, and sold there and then. Hard to believe that people were bought and sold, and not that long ago in the great scheme of things.
Anyway, Jane decides she wants to visit this market also, so eventually we find a multi story car park, with spaces, and not far from where we want to be. So, park the car we do, and walk back to the market. What can I say. it’s a Market.
Jane finds a bangle she likes, so I buy it for her, it was only $15, and it did look good on her.

After spending what seemed a long time in this huge market place, we walk down to the harbor. There are 4 sailing ships moored up. The Colombian one, we saw on the news the day we arrived, The Gloria. Then there was The Prince William. Home port in Portsmouth England. There was another one from India, and the 4th was from Canada, with her home port in Nova Scotia. They did make quite a spectacle, and we have many photos. We decided not to join the very long lines to board them, as we would have been there all day. So we satisfied ourselves with just an outside view.
We then made our way back to the visitors centre, and our car, and made our way home. We did stop off at a Krispy Kream shop on the way, where we bought 6 and got 6 free doughnuts. YUMMY YUMMY.
Got home to a phone call from Georgina, to inform us that Chelsea had beaten Man U in the FA Cup Final, at the new Wembly Stadium, 1 nil, in extra time.
Get to speak to the kids, which is always special. They always seem so pleased to talk to us.
