Yesterday we drove to Soldotna, after finally leaving the campground in Wasilla at 10am. I thought (Jim) that we had agreed on 9.30, and so was ready to go by 9.15. On knocking on Mark and Chris's door, seeing that that they were just sitting down to breakfast, I immediately thought, oops, I've got it wrong. Oh well, communication is a wonderful thing, or so they tell me.
10 am sharp we were on the road. We stopped just shy of Anchorage for diesel, $3.29 a gallon, which was the lowest we had seen for a while. Then through the city of Anchorage and onto the Seward Highway. The scenery was wonderful, and as a result, I kept our speed down to about 45mph. (it was our turn to lead)This meant we made quite a few friends behind us, but there were turnouts aplenty, so I pulled in a few times for both photo stops, and to give our "new friends" a chance to go by us. We then turned west onto the Sterling Highway, a little narrower than the Seward in places, but still a good road.

One of the many stops for photographs, Seward
Highway.
The plan was to stay overnight on Fred Myers parking lot, but when we arrived, we quickly realised we would not be on our own. There were RV's of every description all over the place.
We decided that we would call the campground we were due into on Saturday, and see if they would let us come a day early. Jane was volunteered to to the calling, and with her persuasive manner being successful yet again, we made for Edgewater Lodge and RV Park, just on the south edge of town.
The campground, while pleasant enough, is typical of the campgrounds we have visited here in Alaska, with very narrow sites, and little grass, But with 30amp electric and water and sewer, all for 10 bucks a night, whose complaining.
Jane's turn to do supper, she did a macaroni dish I cant remember the name of, but which tasted Delicious, and home made scones, strawberry jam and fresh cream for desert. mmm,
It was then time to give the girls another lesson in canasta. They don't seem to be learning to well though, and they were well and truly trounced yet again. They say its the playing cards that are at fault, and so they will be looking to replace them at their earliest opportunity. Of course then they will beat the boys on a regular basis.......
